How to Restore and Grow Your Edges Back

Your edges are delicate strands that frame your face. If they’re mistreated, they'll slowly fade away to recede the hairline. This will leave you troubled and confused as to where to go from there! We’re gonna give you some tips to help aid in the restoration of your edges. With a small amount of patience and consistency, your edges will flourish and thrive to their original beauty!

1) Less is More

Your edges need gentle TLC! Consistently applying heavy gel and straining your natural curl pattern is a recipe for disaster. As stated earlier, your edges are thinner, more delicate strands of hair that will break off easily. It’s important to refrain from excessive and rough manipulation daily.

With this rule, the application of certain products is huge. Be mindful of the edge control you’re applying to your edges. Ones with “gentler” ingredients such as honey and aloe are ideal. The Mielle Organics Honey & Ginger Edge Gel and Design Essentials Honey & Shea Edge Tamer obtain such ingredients to inevitably promote hair growth. Again, be mindful of how much you’re applying. It would be counterproductive to use gentler products but slather on a huge amount to prevent adequate moisture from penetrating the hair shaft.

To safely control the amount you’re applying, an edge brush is perfect! An edge brush redistributes a product to be optimal in its application to make your edges slick and shiny. The Baby Tress Edge Styler comes in several colors to adorn your hair care collection. The brush has three functions to separate and smooth with the comb, swoop and shape with the bristled side, and finish with the pointed tip to define stylistic choices that require precision.

Your edges should be granted sensitivity and gentleness to prevent them from breaking off!

2) Anti-Inflammatory Oils are beneficial!

Depending on the hair loss you’re experiencing, oils rich in fatty acids diminish harmful pollutants and promote healthier foundations for hair growth. Oils such as castor oil, monoi, and jojoba are ideal in doing so! Tropic Isle Living Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Taliah Waajid, Shea-Coco Monoi Oil, and Organic Jojoba Oil respective to their individual healing properties. Thankfully if these products don’t suit your tastes, there are plenty of other brands and products that have varied mixtures of oils to fit your needs. Extra research is more helpful than not!

3) Be wary of protective styles

Yes, protective styles are beautiful and versatile, but often, your edges suffer from consistent damage of manipulation. Although your longer stands continue to prosper without strain, your edges are molded to fit the desired style you’re looking for. Be wary of how tight and painful some styles can be! The uncomfortableness of such styles can signal your strands are being strained. The straining can diminish your hairline and result in thin, even balding edges.  It’s helpful to ask your stylists to be mindful of your edges and take a break a break in between installs to give your edges a much-needed breather!

4) Vitamins!

Vitamins are a personal favorite to build hair strength! Since your edges are a part of your hair, vitamins are amazing ways to ensure they’re strong and properly treated. Hydratherma Naturals Hair Growth Plus Vitamins and the Hairfinity Candilocks Chewable Hair Vitamins provide essential nutrients such as biotin and keratin to restore your edges in no time!

Your edges are precious strands that require sensitivity and gentleness. If you want them to thrive and grow to your desired thickness, it’s important to be mindful of how often you’re manipulating them! They’re already fragile, why stain them even more?
